Browser recommendations

Optima is fully supported on Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers. Our general recommendation is to use the newest versions of browsers:

- Mozilla Firefox  http://www.mozilla-europe.org/fi/

- Microsoft Internet Explorer http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/

Optima features are tested on IE versions 7, 8 and 9 and IE6 is mostly supported.

Optima can be used with other browsers as well but functionalities may be somewhat limited.

Sun Java plugin

Some Optima functionalities are Java applications which require a Sun Java plugin for your browser. We recommend using the latest versions. Java plugin is a part of the Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) which you should install in order to use Java applications.

Functionalities in Optima which require Java are:

Upload multiple documents from your computer
Editing external documents (edit applet)
Upload Scorm material from your computer
Voice recorder (most users have access to a newer, flash-based Video and voice recorder)
Form (creating and editing a form)
Survey (visual summary)
Chat

You can find the latest JRE here:

Here you can test whether your JRE version is sufficient: : http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Choose under "Java Platform, Standard edtition" the link Download JRE and after accepting the terms, choose the correct version of JRE according to your operating system. Read the instructions carefully and follow them.

For Interner Explorer, one change needs to be made in the settings after installing the Java Runtime Environment:

• Internet Explorer 
  - Tools > Internet options> Advanced > Java (Sun) 
  - Tick the box for "Use JRE [version number] for applet"
  - Restart the browser

Problems with page updates

Do you have problems with page updates in Optima? Changes you just made are not visible in the document or settings? These problems most typically are due to your browser settings or possibly your organisation's proxy server.

Proxy settings

Attention! It is possible that your organisation's internet connection goes through a proxy server for security reasons. Consult you organisation's Internet security personnel before changing these settings.

• Firefox (Suomi)
  - Asetukset > Lisäasetukset > Verkko > Yhteys > Asetukset
  - Ota rasti pois kohdasta "Ei välityspalvelinta"
  
• Firefox (English)
  - Options> Advanced> Network> Settings> No proxy
  
• Internet Explorer (Suomi 9, 8 ja 7)
  - Työkalut > Internet-asetukset > Yhteydet > Lähiverkon asetukset > Välityspalvelin
  - Ota rasti pois kohdasta "Käytä välityspalvelinta lähiverkossa"
• Internet Explorer (English 9, 8 and 7)
  - Tools > Internet options > Connections > LAN settings > Proxy
  - Untick the box for "Use a proxy server for your LAN"
• Google Chrome
  - Customize and Control Google Chrome > Options > Under the Hood > Network > Change proxy settings > Internet Properties > Lan settings > Local Area Network (LAN) Settings
  - Untick the box for "Use a proxy server for your LAN"
•  Safari
  - Safari menu > Preferences > Advanced > Proxies > Change settings > Network.
  - Uncheck all of the proxy boxes. Click the "Apply Now" button on the bottom of the screen and then click on the "OK" button.

Java and JavaScript settings

You have to allow the use of Java and JavaScript in order for all Optima features to work properly.

• Firefox (Suomi)
  - Asetukset > Sisältö
  - Valitse kohdat "Salli JavaScript-komentosarjat"
  
• Firefox (English)
  - Options> Content> Enable JavaScript
  
•  Internet Explorer (Suomi 9, 8 ja 7)
  - Työkalut > Internet-asetukset > Suojaus > Vyöhykkeen suojaustaso
  - Valitse Keskitaso tai Keskivahva
  - Voit käyttää myös Mukautettua tasoa: varmista, että ainakin seuraavat kohdat ovat valittuina "Scripting/Active Scripting/Enable" ja "Scripting of Java applets/Enable".
•  Internet Explorer (English 9, 8 and 7)
  - Tools > Internet options > Security > Security zone
  - Choose Medium or Medium-high
  - You can also use a Custom level: make sure at least these two are checked: "Scripting/Active Scripting/Enable" and "Scripting of Java applets/Enable".
• Google Chrome
  - Customize and Control Google Chrome > Options > Under the Hood > Content settings
  - Check the box for "Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended)"
•  Safari
  - Safari menu > Preferences > Advanced >Security
  - In Web content, check the boxes for "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript"

Problems with links to Optima

The Optima service has been been fully secured with SSL protocol since 2011. All the data traffic between Optima and the user's web browser is secured. Because of the SSL security the web browsers will warn the user about the content that is not SSL secured. This content can be for example links that lead to other Web sites whose URL start with "http://". In most web browsers this warning will be shown with small warning icons in the web browser. In Microsoft Internet Explorer he warnings appears as pop-up windows if you have not allowed mixed content to be shown.

Problems with logging in

SSL settings

The login page of Optima uses secured connection so that the login names and passwords of users will not end up in wrong hands. Using the secured connection demands that SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol is enabled in the browser. You can check this from you browser settings.

  - Asetukset > Lisäasetukset > Salaus
  - Rastita kohdat "Salli SSL 3.0 -turvakäytäntö" ja "Salli TLS 1.0 turvakäytäntö".
  
• Firefox (English)
  - Options > Advanced > Encryption "Use SSL 3.0 "  ja "Use TLS 1.0".
  
• Internet Explorer (Suomi 9, 8 ja 7)
  - Työkalut > Internet-asetukset > Lisäasetukset > Suojaus
  - Rastita kohdat "Käytä SSL 2.0 -suojausta", "Käytä SSL 3.0 -suojausta" ja "Käytä TLS 1.0 -suojausta"
  
• Internet Explorer (English 9, 8 and 7)
  - Tools > Internet options > Advanced > Security
  - Check the boxes for "Use SSL 2.0 ", "Use SSL 3.0" and "Use TLS 1.0".

  - In Security, check the boxes for "Use SSL 3.0" and "Use TLS 1.0"
•  Safari
  - Safari menu > Preferences > Advanced > Proxies > Change settings > Advanced
  - Check the boxes for "Use SSL 3.0" and "Use TLS 1.0"

Certificates

Certificate is a document saved to your computer that certifies reliability of web server. Discendum Optima uses certificates. In problematic situations concerning certificates it may be best to remove the old certificates. It is possible to view and delete these certificates in browsers. See instructions below:

  - Asetukset > Lisäasetukset > Salaus > "Näytä varmenteet"-painike
  
• Firefox (English)
  - Options > Advanced > Encryption > View Certificates
  
•  Internet Explorer (Suomi 9, 8 ja 7)

•  Internet Explorer (English 9, 8 and 7)
  - Tools > Internet options > Content > Certificates
  
• Google Chrome
  - Customize and Control Google Chrome > Options > Under the Hood
  - In Security, check the box for "Check for server certificate revocation"
•  Safari
  - Safari menu > Preferences > Advanced > Proxies > Change settings > Content > Certificates

Cookies settings

Cookies are used to confirm the identification between user and web server. Discendum Optima uses cookies to identify session login and logout. You can check out the settings described below if you have problems with logging into Optima environment.

• Firefox (Suomi)
  - Asetukset> Tietosuoja > Historiatiedot
  
• Firefox (English)
  - Options> Privacy> Remember history
  
•  Internet Explorer (Suomi 9, 8 ja 7)
  -Työkalut> Internet-asetukset> Tietosuoja
  - Valitse asetukseksi "Keskivahva" tai alempi. "Vahva" ja "Estä kaikki evästeet" -valinnat estävät Optiman käytön.
  - Jos haluat valita varovaisemman yleisasetuksen, voit kuitenkin sallia evästeiden käytön Optima-palvelimella. Toimi seuraavasti:
  - Paina edellä mainitussa kohdassa otsikkoa ”Sivustot"
  - Kirjoita "WWW-sivuston osoite" -kohtaan "optima.discendum.com" ja klikkaa "Salli". Alla olevaan tekstikenttään ilmestyy teksti "discendum.com". Klikkaa OK.
  
•  Internet Explorer (English 9, 8 and 7)
  - Tools > Internet options> Privacy
  - Choose "Medium-high" or lower. "High" and "Block all cookies" choices prevent you from using Optima.
  - If you wish to be more careful, you can allow the use of cookies on the Optima server:
  - Click on the "Sites" button in the Privacy window
  - In "Address of website", insert "optima.discendum.com" and click "Allow". The text "discendum.com" will appear in the text field below. Click OK.
  
• Google Chrome
  - Customize and Control Google Chrome > Options > Under the Hood
  Content settings
  - In Cookies, check the box for "Allow local data to be set (recommended)"
•  Safari
  - Safari menu > Preferences > Security
  - In Accept Cookies, check the box for "Only from sites you navigate to"
